Title:
GAS DETECTOR
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS5853750
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a compact and inexpensive gas detector which has a high detecting sensitivity, by measuring oxygen concentration of gas to be measured which has passed through a catalyst region by means of an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolytic concentration cell.

CONSTITUTION: A porous catalyst region 2 with an appropriate thickness is formed in a gas inlet A of an oxygen ion conductive solid electrolytic hollow cylinder 1. Two electrodes 3 and 3' are located facing and opposite to each other at a given distance away from the catalyst region 2 at a gas outlet B side and on both the inner and the outer surface of the cylinder 1. In case the detector so constituted is used to detect gas leak, after firstly heated to a most suitable temperature by heating means 7 and 7', the gas inlet A is brought into contact with a gas leak spot, and leak gas is sucked into the cylinder 1 through the working of a gas suction mechanism attached to the gas outlet. The leak gas is analyzed by the catalyst region 2, and oxygen sucked togetherwith the leak gas at an analyzing time is consumed, which results in producing a difference in oxygen partial pressure between the inside and the outside of the cylinder 1. The difference in oxygen partial pressure is detected as an electromotive force by means of the electrodes 3 and 3'.
