PURPOSE: To perform focus servocontrol accurately without malfunction nor the influence of reflected luminous flux from the surface of a reflection type optical recording medium by obtaining a focus operation instruction signal when a coincidence detecting circuit detects the presence of a traverse signal and a focus error signal larger than a specific value from the outputs of the 1st and the 2nd deciding circuit.
CONSTITUTION: A focus error signal is supplied to an input terminal I1 and this is further supplied to one input terminal of the comparator 12 of the 1st level decision circuit 11. A reference source voltage E1 is applied to the other input terminal. When the focus error signal is higher than a decision level E1, a 0-level output is supplied to one input terminal of the OR circuit 14 of a trailing-stage decision detecting circuit 13. The traverse signal, on the other hand, is supplied to an input terminal I2, and this signal is supplied to one input terminal of the comparator 16 of the 2nd level decision circuit 15. When the traverse signal is higher than a decision level E2, it is decided that there is the traverse signal, and this is supplied to the other input terminal of the OR circuit 14 of the coincidence detecting circuit 14. Consequently, the focus operation instruction signal is led out.
