Abstract:
Apparatus (10) for pumping/pressurizing fluid materials such as viscous liquid polymers in which a shaft (16) is provided with one or more blades (18) which extend into and rotate in one or more annular channels (20). Inlet grooves (30) conduct the liquid material through grooves (32) in the shaft (16) into the channel (34) behind each blade (18). The walls of the channel (20) apply a drag force to the material and the advancing blade (18) pressurizes the material which is forced through axial grooves (38) in the shaft (16) to another pumping channel (42), or to an outlet (49). Close running fits or dynamic seals between the shaft and its bearings (14) provide seals at opposite sides of each channel (76).
