PURPOSE: To adjust only the projection extent of a head independently by rotating a head carrier around a shaft which guides the head carrier straight, and projecting and backing away the heat to and from a disk.

CONSTITUTION: The magnetic head carrier 20 has the sliding direction determined unequivocally by a guide shaft 26 and its rotation to the circumference of the guide shaft 26 is specified by a guide shaft 38. A screw hole into which an adjusting screw 39 is inserted is formed in the fitting part of the arm part 20c of the carrier 20 for a leaf spring 35 and the adjusting screw 39 is inserted to deform the leaf spring 35 downward relatively to the carrier 20, which is applied with a reaction force due to the deformation to rotate clockwise around the guide shaft 26. Then, the magnetic head 6 projects. When the adjusting screw 39 is loosened, the magnetic head 6 moves back. In this case, the guide shaft 26 also receives torque of rotation, but its slanting component is only a fraction of an angle of inclination and causes substantially no problem.
