Abstract:
Proliferating B cells have a cytosolic Transglutaminase (TGase), which exhibits absolute requirement for Ca<++> for its activity. The molecular mass of this TGase is 85 kDa. A method for arresting the lymphocytic cell cycle progression in the G1-phase is described by the use of TGase inhibitors, monodansyl cadaverine (MDC) and 1-(5-aminopentyl)-3-phenylthiourea (PPTU). Reversal of this inhibition allows the lymphocytes to enter the S-phase of normal cell cycle progression. A monocytic cell strain exhibits arrest of cell growth and failure to enter S-phase upon treatment with TGase inhibitor.
