PURPOSE: To provide the plotting device capable of the high-speed processing by remarkably reducing a memory to be used when paint-out processing by pattern is performed at the time of converting input data into raster information.

CONSTITUTION: An edge list generation part 5 generates an edge list for the input data inputted to a plotting input part 2. Clip processing is performed by a clip processing part 6 and the input data are sent to a coloring processing part 8. The part 8 compares the edge list of the pattern stored in a pattern memory 9 with the edge list of the input data and regenerates the edge list. Thus paint-out processing by pattern is performed. The regenerated edge list is merged to the edge list for one page by an edge list merge part 10 and raster- converted by a rasterise part 12 and outputted to an output device 14.
