PURPOSE: To provide the electrostatic charging member which is a member for electrostatic charge formed by using NBR (nitrile-butadiene rubber) having relatively low resistance as a surface layer and has excellent productivity and durability.
CONSTITUTION: A conductive elastic layer 3 consisting of epichlorhydrin rubber is formed on an arbor 2. A coating liquid is prepd. by using liquid NBR having a carboxyl group at the terminal of the molecule as a main component and using amines and diepoxy as a hardener. An electrostatic charging roller in the state formed with the conductive elastic layer 3 is immersed into the coating liquid to coat the surface of the conductive elastic layer 3 with the coating liquid. After the surface of the conductive elastic layer 3 is coated with the coating liquid, the coating is subjected to baking at 140°C, by which the surface layer 4 having a film thickness of about 20μm is formed. The good results as to the productivity, durability and non-tacky adhesiveness of the surface layer 4 are thus obtd.
