PURPOSE: To make it possible to accurately and repeatedly position a work formed with a plurality of grooves in a same shape at a suitable pitch in the outer peripheral surface of the work, by abutting, against the grooves of the work fitted to a rotary table, a reference rod which may be releasably inserted into the grooves.
CONSTITUTION: When a proximate switch 20 detects a protruded outer peripheral surface part of a work 4 which is fitted on an indexing table 2 rotated by a torque motor 32, the work 4 is made stop so that the work 4 is roughly positioned, and therefore, the front end part 21a of a clamp rod 21 is set to a position where it may be inserted into a groove 4a. Then, the front end 21a is inserted into the groove 4a by means of an air cylinder 31, then, the indexing table 2 is again rotated by the torque motor 32, and therefore, the inner wall surface of the groove 4a abuts against a lateral surface of the front end 21a, resulting in the work 4 being stopped so that the work 4 is accurately positioned. Thus, chamferring, grinding, drilling, etc. may be made to the work 4 with a high degree of accuracy.
