Abstract:

PURPOSE: To stably and efficiently produce a solid-phase amorphous powder having a high grade TiAl composition by using a mechanical alloying method.

CONSTITUTION: At the time of subjecting a powder mixture of Ti and Al to mechanical alloying by the use of a reactor of agitation type ball mill where inert atmosphere is held, the reactor is forcedly cooled to stably maintain the temp. level in the course of reaction at ≤150°C and the stage of making a multi-layer structure of Ti and Al is passed, by which the powder is transformed into solid-phase amorphous state. It is preferable that the inside wall of the agitation type ball mill be previously coated with Ti powder, Al powder, or TiAl powder.
