Abstract:
PURPOSE: To prevent the breakage of a self-arc extinguishing type control element due to rush current at the time of startup, and ensure a stable startup operation inexpensively by providing a lighting system with a thyrister and a current detector to control current flowing to a lighting load at the time of startup. CONSTITUTION: At the time of startup, a self-arc extinguishing type control element 8 applies phase control voltage to a lighting load 2. In this case, a large amount of current flows to the load 2, and the value thereof is detected with a current detector 31. Then, a signal for the current so detected is compared with the reference value of a reference power supply 33. When the signal is identified as higher, a comparison signal is outputted from a comparator 32 and enters a control device 12. The comparator 32, then, stops outputting a signal. Thereafter, the device 12 causes current to flow across a self-extinguishing type control element 9, starting from zero potential, and stores on-time elapsed until the detected signal exceeds the reference value. The device 12 also issues an instruction for a thyrister drive device 11 to make thyristers 8 and 9 fully conductive, and the thyristers 8 and 9 are thereby kept fully conductive. Also, a time for allowing subsequent AC power voltage to be applied across the elements 8 and 9 is finely and incrementally made longer than the on-time.
