Date Oct. 19, 1995A component for a pulp refiner such as a paper pulp refiner. The component comprises an attachment surface (16) for attachment to the refiner, a working surface (17, 22), and at least one core (15, 28, 33, 50, 51) made of rigid material and provided with a wear resistant coating (19, 20, 25) so that at least the useful surface area (18) of the component at least partially consists of the outer surface of the coating (19, 20, 25). Said component is characterised in that said coating (19, 20, 25) consists of a stack of thin layers or strips (21). A refiner including at least one such component, a method for preparing said component and a fiberising and for refining method using at least one such component are also disclosed.
