PURPOSE: To separate Zn, Pb, etc. in Fe-base waste from Fe at a low cost and to recover them effectively, by treating the waste contg. Zn, Pb, etc. discharged from a stage for refining metal with exhaust gas contg. hydrogen chloride.
CONSTITUTION: Fe dust contg. valuable metals such as Zn and Pb produced in an electric furnace for steel manufacture or the like is granulated to 3W7mm grain size. Zn and Pb in the granules are converted into chlorides by passing exhaust gas contg. hydrogen chloride through the granules at 230W250°C. The exhaust gas is obtd. from a plant for incinerating garbage or industrial waste, a plant for manufacturing vinyl chloride or other plant. The granules are then heated to about 1,300°C to volatilize the Zn and Pb chlorides, and the chlorides are separated and recovered. Fe oxide contg. no Zn and Pb remains in the granules, so the granules can be utilized as a starting material for iron manufacture.
