PURPOSE: To prevent the clogging in the cutting of glass fiber by guiding a glass fiber between a pair of right and left cutter rolls and pressing and cutting the glass fiber with a cutter edge of a roll at the part in the middle of cutter edges of the other roll.
CONSTITUTION: A glass fiber 9 such as roving is supplied at a constant speed between a pair of right and left rotary cutter rolls 4, 5 formed by inserting a cutter edge 3, a spacer 7 and an elastic member 8 in the order between protrusions 6 radially protruded from the outer circumference of a metal roll 2 at regular spacings. The glass fiber 9 is pressed and cut with the cutter edge 3 of the right cutter roll 5 at a position between the cutter edges 3 of the left cutter roll 4 and then pressed and cut with the cutter edge 3 of the left cutter roll 4 at a position between the cutter edges 3 of the right cutter roll 5. The glass fiber 9 can be cut to a length corresponding to one half of the dimension between the cutter edges 3 of the right and left rolls 4, 5 by alternately cutting the glass fiber with the cutter edges 3 of the right and left cutter rolls 4, 5.
