PURPOSE: To provide the functional resin composition of which absorption spectrum changes when thermal energy is applied thereto and of which spectral characteristics differs with temperature and which is therefore usable for a temperature sensor, an optical recording medium or the like.
CONSTITUTION: The functional resin composition comprises a polymer and a colorant. The fact that the compatibility of the polymer with the colorant changes with temperature and this change causes a change in the state of association of the colorant to thereby change the spectral characteristics, is utilized. A desirable example of the composition is one wherein the polymer comprises polyethylene glycol, polycaprolactone and/or poly(1,4-butylene adipate) and the colorant comprises a phthalocyanine or naphthalocyanine pigment with or without a central metal.
