PURPOSE: To obtain a coloring compound which can form a color excellent in transaparency and sharpness when used in the coloration of a resin by reacting a reaction product of a specified coloring matter with trichlorotriazine and a deacidifying agent with an amine and a deacidifying agent.

CONSTITUTION: A coloring matter of formula I is dissolved in an organic solvent and reacted with trichlorotriazine, etc., at 0-20°C in the presence of a deacidifying agent to obtain an intermediate of formula III. This intermediate as such without separation is reacted with successively an amine represented by R1H and R2H or an alcohol at 60-100°C in the presence of a deacidifying agent to obtain the coloring compound of formula III. In the formulas, X1 and X2 are each H or a halogen; X is O or -NH-; R1 and R2 are each -NR3R4; and R3 and R4 are each H, an unsubstituted alkyl or alkoxyalkyl.
