NEW MATERIAL:1-(4-Benzyloxyphenyl)-2-(4-benzylpiperidino)propan-1-ol of formula I .
USE: Synthetic intermediate of 1-(4-hydroxyphenyl)-2-(4-benzylpiperidino)-propal-1-ol useful as a drug for circulatory organs.
PREPARATION: The compound of formula I is prepared by reducing the ketone of formula III with a metal hydride preferably sodium borohydride. The reaction solvent is preferably a lower alcohol when sodium borohydride is used as the reducing agent. The reaction is carried out at -20W+100°C, preferably 0W70°C. The erythro-isomer of the compound of formula II useful as a drug for circulatory organs is known as ifenprodil which is a drug for mitigating the sequela of cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, etc., and the erythro-isomer is preferentially produced from the compound of formula I .
