PURPOSE: To prepare an immobilized enzyme having high stability and capable of keeping the enzymatic activity at a high level for a long period, by bonding an enzyme to water-dispersible polymer particle through an aldehyde group by covalent bond.
CONSTITUTION: A polyamine such as phenylenediamine, ethylenediamine, etc. is made to react with excess dialdehyde such as glutaraldehyde, glyxoal, etc. in an aqueous dispersion of water-dispersible polymer particles having an average particle diameter of 0.03W2μ, preferably 0.07W1μ and having an acid group preferably sulfonic acid group, carboxyl group, etc. and/or a basic group such as tertiary amino group, etc. in the side chain. A polymer consisting of the Schiff base of polyamine and dialdehyde and containing free aldehyde group is deposited to the surface of the water-dispersible polymer particles by this process. The enzyme is then immobilized to the particle through the free aldehyde group by covalent bond.
