Title:
NEW CULTURE OF EXSEROHILUM ROSTRATUM AND METHOD FOR USING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH067150
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain a new microorganism capable of producing a squalene synthetase inhibitor containing no phosphorus and useful as cholesterol suppressants and antimicrobial agents by fermentation.

CONSTITUTION: This invention relates to biologically pure culture of Exserohilum rostratum, capable of producing a compound which inhibits squalene-synthetase activity and is expressed by formula I in an amount to be harvested from a fermentation broth, e.g. a strain MF5565 (ATCC74068). The strain MF5565 is isolated from cacao tree bark harvested in Los-Banos, Laguna, Philippine. The compound of the formula is preferably produced by culturing the above mentioned bacteria in an aerobic condition at pH4.5-7 and 24-26°C.
