PURPOSE: To prepare a simple composite pigment at a low cost and ideally and universally applicably by spray-drying an aqueous suspension containing substrates and pigment particles without any additive.

CONSTITUTION: Pigment substrates are applied by spray-drying a aqueous suspension containing the substrates and pigment particles without addition of any additive. In this way, a composite pigment containing substrates having an average diameter of 3-200 μm is prepared as support for organic or inorganic pigment particles having a diameter of ≤1 μm. As the substrates, a transparent, translucent or opaque substrate may be usable. As the preferable transparent or translucent substrates, glass-made particles, mica, talk, or polyethylene, polyamide particles may be cited. Also, an example of the preferable opaque substrate is metal particles, metal oxide particles, SiO2 particles or the like may be cited.
