Abstract:
PURPOSE:To provide the subject novel polymer capable of ready control of its transition temperature over a wide range, thus suitable as an optoelectronic material for memories, displays, etc., made up of specific recurring unit having liquid crystal-natured mesogen group at polymer side chain. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer made up of recurring unit of formula I [U is polymer main chain; V is (CH2)m, of formula II ((m) is 0 to 30), etc.; W is O, CO, etc.; X is mesogen part where at least two of (substituted) homoaromatic ring, heteroaromatic ring and aliphatic ring are linked through single bond, O, etc.; Y is (CH2)r ((r) is 0 to 3), OCO, etc.; Z is R<2> or COR<2> (R<2> is alkyl capable of substitution)]. The present polymer can be obtained by reaction, for example, between (A) 4-[4'-(6-acryloyloxyhexyloxy) benzoyloxy]benzoic acid 2-methyl-2-propyloxyethyl ester and (B) a monomeric compound of formula III.
