Olefins such as ethylene and alpha -olefins may be (co)polymerized using preformed catalysts containing selected transition metals, especially late transition metals, complexed to selected ligands. These performed catalysts are preferably particulate solids, and may be used for polymerizations in liquid media or the gas phase.
