PURPOSE: To improve the operability of a position indicator by setting ten-key having high using frequencies into the position indicator and at the same time providing a switching part to change the output signal given from a signal conversion part to the output signal from the ten-key.

CONSTITUTION: The displacement amount delivered from a shift amount detection part MD is decomposed into X and Y direction components by a signal conversion part SE. Then the signals corresponding to both direction components are supplied to up/down counters UDCx and UDCy respectively. The count value of the counter is applied to a multiplexer MPX of a signal switching part SWD and then to a main body part IA when a push-button switch B1 is turned off. While the signal given from an encoder ECK set by ten-key TK is applied to the part IA when the switch B1 is kept on. With push of a push-button B2, the signal given from a signal generating power supply E is applied to the part IA. The position of a cursor obtained at a time point when the switch B2 is pushed is stored in a CPU.
