PURPOSE: To improve the degree of freedom of measurement and accuracy by measuring a shape steel between detection heads provided at a two-axis stage mechanism and calculating dimensions from the distance where a detection head moved and a measurement value of a laser displacement meter.
CONSTITUTION: An H-shape steel 11 is carried to a measurement position by a roller conveyor 22, a gauge 64 is measured by detection heads 17 and 18 laid out at the measurement position of the reference gauge 64 in advance, the width an length are calibrated, and the heads 17 and 18 are moved horizontally, thus measuring the approximate dimensions of an object to be measured and hence indexing the type of the shape steel and measuring XY coordinates on the surface while moving the heads 17 and 18 with a specific clearance to the steel 11. At this time, in the case of the layout a the conveyor 22 at a right angle, the measurement value of two-axis stage mechanisms 12 and 13 and a laser displacement meter for measuring the vertical position and horizontal direction of the heads 17 and 18 enable the height to the steel 11 and the distance to a side to be measured, thus measuring a flange width W and a web length L of the steel 11. The inside and outside of the flange are measured by rotating the heads 17 and 18 by 180 degrees since the direction of the laser displacement meter becomes opposite.
