PURPOSE: To continuously, efficiently, and easily obtain casts by anionically polymerizing an ω-lactam in an apparatus having a continuously moving belt, a heater for the belt, and a part which functions to cast.
CONSTITUTION: An ω-lactam containing an anionic-polymerization catalyst and an ω-lactam containing an activator are melted separately and fed to a mixer. This mixture is injected through the injection nozzle of the mixer into a continuous casting apparatus comprising a continuous moving belt having a part which moves continuously while retaining a cylindrical shape, molds for maintaining the cast shape, and a stationary heater for heating the molds and the belt. The lactam is then continuously polymerized and cast in the casting part of this apparatus. The resultant casts are cooled and continuously taken out. Examples of the catalyst include alkaline substances such as salts of an ω-lactam with an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal, e.g. sodium lactamate.
