Abstract:
PURPOSE: To detect the advance azimuth of a vehicle based on the position of the vehicle calculated via self-contained navigation and GPS signals from at least two satellites.
CONSTITUTION: The advance azimuth of a vehicle is detected by the on first calculating means 103 via self-contained navigation based on the travel distance of the vehicle detected by a distance detecting means 100, the turn angle of the vehicle detected by an angle detecting means 101, and the road map data around the vehicle read out from memory means 102. The advance azimuth of the vehicle is calculated by the second calculating means 104 based on the GPS signals from at least two satellites and the position of the vehicle calculated via self-contained navigation.
