PURPOSE: To obtain a magneto-optical disk whose magnetic-field sensitivity is high, whose error rate is low, whose reliability is high and which is low-cost.
CONSTITUTION: A magneto-optical disk is manufactured in such a way that a dielectric film 4 and a recording film 5 of a rare-earth element-transition element alloy in this order are formed on a transparent substrate 2. In this case, after the dielectric film 4 has been formed, an electric discharge treatment to execute an electric discharge by exposing the surface of the dielectric film 4 to a rare-gas atmosphere is executed, and the recording film 5 is then formed. Then, after the recording film 5 has been formed, a holding process in which the substrate 2 is held in an inert-gas atmosphere is installed. In addition, after the holding process installed after the formation of the recording film, an electric discharge treatment which executes an electric discharge by exposing the surface of the recording film 5 to a rare-gas atmosphere is executed.
