PURPOSE: To find the position of an intended gene on a filter using a sheet containing a stimulating phosphor by a method wherein a part of a clone of a gene formed on a medium is shifted onto a filter and fixed thereon to hybridize the gene with a radioactive labeled probe.
CONSTITUTION: A part of a colony 7a of a clone of a gene formed on a medium 2a of a master plate is shifted onto a replica filter 2b marked 3b to match a mark 3a attached with a drafting ink. The replica filter 2b is placed on a new medium and a colony 1b is allowed to form according to the position of the colony 1a. The gene is hybridized on the colony 1b with a radioactive labeled probe and a radio active ink is put on the mark 3b to make a mark 3c. A storage phosphor sheet 2d containing a stimulating phosphor is brought into contact with the filter and exposed for a short time at the room temperature to record the position 1d of an intended gene. A reader is used to obtain an auto radiograph from the recorded sheet 2d whereby the position of the intended gene on the first medium 2a can be found accurately to effect a screening.
