PURPOSE: To safely and economically provide position information inside a vehicle by gathering the position information from wireless transponders provided in the prescribed places of paths and recognizing a position inside the vehicle.

CONSTITUTION: For instance, the wireless transponders 2 stored with the position information such as the down name and address, etc., of the place are attached to signal devices 1 widely scattered and provided on roads. When the vehicle 3 approaches the signal device 1, data transfer is performed through an antenna 4 with a data read controller 5 provided in the vehicle and the position information is read in the vehicle 3. The read data are displayed on a display device 6 or linked with an area data map file 8 to which area information is registered beforehand and a present location is displayed on a map as needed. Also, present location information based on the read data is transmitted to a base station by a mounted radio equipment and a vehicle position is grasped at the base station.
