Title:
MAGNETIC RECORDING MEDIUM
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH0714712
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium having high coercive force by forming a magnetic layer principally comprising Co, Cr, Pd on a nonmagnetic substrate.
CONSTITUTION: A thin alloy film medium, where the magnetic layer has a composition CowCrxPdy (w=60-80at%, x=5-20at%, y=2-25at%), is formed on an NiP plated Al substrate by DC magnetron sputtering. One or more kind of Ta, Si, Ti, W, Nb, Hf, B is added to an element composing the magnetic layer. The content of additive element is set in the range of 0.5-6at%. Furthermore, a nonmagnetic metal underlying layer is formed between the nonmagnetic substrate and the magnetic layer. The thickness of the nonmagnetic metal underlying layer is set in the range of 100-3000.
