PURPOSE: To provide an image forming device which has a detecting means to detect a distance from the device to a body being near the device, and recognize whether a detected body is a user of the device or not based on a detected signal given from the detecting means at least at timing before the detected body arrives at the device.
CONSTITUTION: An opening section 60a is formed in front of an ultrasonic or infrared transmitting source 50, and provided with a shielding member 60 being rotatable in a vertical direction to the light emitting direction of the transmitting source 50 and a fixed shielding member 70. A beam can be shaked in the lateral direction of an image forming device by rotation in the vertical direction to the light emitting direction of the shielding member 60 with the movement of the opening section 60a, and the position of an objective body can be specified by both the direction and distance of light projection which depend upon the position of the opening section 60a.
