PURPOSE: To prevent fog, and to enhance color developing characteristics, etc., by adding a polymeric coupler latex having a copolymeric structure for coupling with the oxidized product of an aromatic primary amine developing agent and producing a dye.
CONSTITUTION: An ethylenically unsatd. monomer, such as acrylic acid or styrene, incapable of coupling with the oxidized product of an aromatic primary amine developing agent is emulsion polymerized to form a polymer latex. On the other hand, a monomer coupler, such as formulaeI, II, and III, capable of coupling with said agent to produce a dye is emulsion copolymerized together with a noncoloring ethylenically unsatd. monomer to produce a polymer color latex having a copolymeric structure. The obtained latices are added to the silver halide emulsion layer of a silver halide photosensitive material or its adjacent layer.
