PURPOSE: To obtain a phenoxyalkylaminedicarboxylic acid imide which is useful as an insecticide, acaricide, microbicide and the like by reaction of an amide with a pyrazolecarboxylic halide in the presence of an organic base.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction of a compound of formula I [R1 is an alkyl; R2 is an alkyl, -A-O-R7 (A is a 1-4C alkylene chain; R7 is an alkyl); R3 is H, an alkyl; R4 is an alkyl] with a compound of formula II (R5 is H, an alkyl, a cycloalkyl; R6 is H, halogen; X is halogen) is carried out in the presence of an organic base (for example, triethylamine) in a solvent such as ethyl acetate at 50-180°C to give a compound of formula III. The compound of formula II is used in an amount of 1-2-fold moles; the base is in 1-2-fold moles and the solvent is in a 1-50-fold amount based on the compound of formula I. The use of an organic base rather than an inorganic base markedly increases the yield of the compound of formula III.
