Abstract:
PURPOSE: To save manpower in the work bringing optical fibers into contact and to produce a melt drawing optical fiber coupler having uniform quality with satisfactory reproducibility.
CONSTITUTION: A glass member 10 is put on the coat-removed parts of two optical fibers f1, f2 arranged close to each other and this glass member 10 is melted with laser light 30. The glass part 1, 2 of both the optical fiber f1, f2 are attracted to each other by the surface tension of the molten glass member 10 and the glass parts 1, 2 are brought into contact with each other.
