Abstract:

PURPOSE: To cast a low-speed cast ingot of the high temp. approximately equal to the temp. of high-speed cast ingots by cutting the ingot in the position right after the completion of solidification of the low speed cast ingot in the stage of low-speed casting and delivering the cut ingot at a high speed exceeding the casting speed.

CONSTITUTION: In the stage of low-speed casting, a carriage type quick changer 8 puts a cutter 13 for low-speed cast ingots on-line and a horizontal segment 12 off-line. The ingot 3 cast from a mold 2 solidifies fully in the position 5' just before the device 8, and the solidified ingot is cut to a required length with the cutter 13. The cut ingot is drawn at the high speed exceeding the casting speed with driving rolls 21, is conveyed with roller tables 22 and is delivered from the rear surface of the cutter 6 to the next stage. In the stage of high speed casting, the device 8 puts the segment 12 on-line and the cutter 13 off- line. The segment 12 draws the same ingot as that of the other on-line segment, and the high speed cast-ingot solidifies fully in the position 5 and is cut with the cutter 6.
