PURPOSE: To obtain an optical recording medium having a high sensitivity and a great S/N reading-out ratio by a method in which 80% or more a dye having a high reflectivity to reading-out light is added to a recording layer containing a thermoplastic resin and a dye and the thickness of the recording layer is made larger.
CONSTITUTION: A recording layer, containing 80W99.9wt% a dye having a surface reflectivity of 6% or more to reading-out light, 2% or more greater than that of a thermoplastic resin, and a melting point of 100°C or more, together with a thermoplastic resin (e.g., polyolefin, vinyl chloride copolymer, polystyrene, etc.) and various plasticizers, surfactants, etc., as needed, is formed on a base material (e.g., various resins, glass, ceramics, etc.). The preferred thickness of the recording layer is 0.2μm or more, more preferably 0.25W2μm, and the transmittance of the recording layer is preferably adjusted to 10% or less. Such a recording medium is less in deterioration of reproductivity and also good in the forming property and strength of film.
