PURPOSE: A synthetic resin composition having improved light stability, prepared by adding a specified amount of a copolymer consisting of a polyalkylpiperidyl group-containing maleate or fumarate ester.
CONSTITUTION: The titled composition is prepared by mixing 100pts.wt. synthetic resin (e.g., PP, or ABS resin) with 0.001W5pts.wt. copolymer, MW 1,000W 20,000, consisting of a monomer of formulaI, wherein R1 is a group of formula II or III, R2 is an alkyl or a group represented by R1, x is CH or a group of formula IV or V, R6 is a lower alkyl, R3 is H or an alkyl, R4 is H or CH3, R5 is an alkylene, Y is CH2, CO, CHOH or a group of formula VI, and R7 is an alkylene) and a monomer selected from the group consisting of a 2W8C aliphatic carboxylic acid vinyl ester, a 1W18C alkyl vinyl ether, triallyl isocyanurate, pinene and tricyclo [5,2,1,02,6] decene-3.
EFFECT: The stabilizing effect is maintained for a long time, because the above copolymer has good compatibility with synthetic resins and low volatility.
