PURPOSE: To prevent the difference of surface temperatures due to the accumulative effect of the heat of heat-generating section, and to obviate the unevenness of density by relatively displacing mutually adjacent heat-generating resistor dots in the direction of feeding of paper or the head.

CONSTITUTION: In the thermal head consisting of head-generating resistor dot groups 4, 5 formed onto an insulator substrate 3 in rows, electrode groups 2 holding these dot groups and protective layers shaped onto these dot groups and electrode groups, the mutually adjacent heat-generating resistor dots 4, 5 are formed while being alternately displaced only by length 12 as the reciprocal of the density of by-scan in the direction 13 of by-scan. Accordingly, a thermal effect among the dots adjoining in the direction of main scan can be reduced because each heat-generating resistor dot is separated and the color-forming dots having density and size in the same extent can be shaped in the thermal head in which the positions of the heat-generating resistor dots are alternately displaced.
