Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a mail processing device which can specify easily erroneous sites, days, times and the like in the case errors are generated in bar code information printed on the mail.

CONSTITUTION: Input into a photoelectric conversion section 3 is performed by photoelectrically converting an image on a mail 1. Bar code information (address information) on the mail 1 is recognized by a bar code recognition section 5 based on the input image, while the address information on the mail 1 is recognized by an address recognition section 6 based on the input image. The bar code recognition section 5 and the address recognition section 6 are operated in parallel, and when the bar code information is recognized, the priority is given to the recognition result. Specified information for specifying errors in the case the address information thus recognized is added by a printing control section 9, and the address information to which the specified information is added is converted into the corresponding bar code information. The converted bar code information is printed on the corresponding mail 1 by a bar code printing section 10.
