Abstract:
PURPOSE:To obtain an emulsion with excellent long-term preservation stability and dilution stability, by emulsifying a rosin substance and water according to a reverse emulsification process by using a polyoxyalkylene fatty acid amide ester salt of sulfosuccinic acid as an emulsifier. CONSTITUTION:In a reverse emulsification process wherein a rosin substance, an emulsifier and water are mixed to obtain an emulsion comprising a continuous phase of the rosin substance and a dispersion phase of water and, thereafter, water is added to reverse both phases to obtain an emulsion comprising a continuous phase of water and a dispersion phase of the rosin substance, an ester salt of mono-or di-(polyoxyalkylene fatty acid amide) of sulfosuccinic acid shown by formulae I or II (wherein R<1> is 7-21C alkyl or alkenyl; R<2> is H or methyl; n is 1-30; M is an ion forming a water-soluble salt) or a mixture thereof is used as the emulsifier. The obtained aqueous emulsion is extremely suitable for handling in using the same as a sizing agent in papermaking.
