PURPOSE: To achieve perfect seal by preventing an electrode for a flat display from turning into non-conductive body at the time of frit seal.

CONSTITUTION: A flat display is structured so that a fluorescent screen 20 is installed opposingly to an electrode structure 10 which includes an electron emission source, wherein the frit seal part of electrode constituting the electrode structure is covered with Ga or an alloy 40 containing Ga. The electrode is made from Nb or tungsten silicide, and examples of the Ga-containing alloy are GaNb, Galn, etc. It may also be acceptable that fine powder of inorganic substance is added to Ga or Ga-containing alloy. Example of the inorganic fine powder is of Al2O3, whose mean particle size is 0.5-2μm. The surface of the frit seal part of the electrode is covered with Ga or Ga-containing alloy, and frit seal with a frit material is conducted.
