PURPOSE: To provide a wet cyclone which obviates the need for a diffuser having a curved front edge by disposing a diffuser within an immersion tube which is cylindrical for withdrawal of a light fraction at a distance from an inlet end of the immersion tube of about half the inside diameter of the immersion tube.
CONSTITUTION: A wet cyclone 1 comprises a tangential inlet tube 2, a conical lower part 12 and a central immersion tube 3 which extends to an inlet region and has a take-off-tube, a part of which is located above the cyclone 1. A diffuser 5 having guide vanes 7 is disposed in the immersion tube 3 at a prescribed distance from an inlet end L of the immersion tube 3. By equalizing the distance between a front edge E of the vane 7 and the inlet end L of the immersion tube 3 to at least half the inside diameter of the immersion tube, interference of fluid streams by the edge of the vane of the diffuser 5 and an edge part of the immersion tube 3 in the inlet region of the immersion tube can be avoided. Thereby the diffuser 5 can be operated without problem.
