PURPOSE: To naturally connect Japanese characters only by adding the least additional information to vector character information.

CONSTITUTION: The real write ending 1 and write beginning 2 of characters and the write ending 3 and write beginning 4 of sweep-up stroke parts are prepared and the two adjacent characters are arranged on the basis of specific font frames 5a and 5b; and the imaginary straight line y=ax6 connecting the real write ending 1 of the precedent character and the real write beginning 2 of the following character is found, an imaginary envelope curve y=f(x) 7 connecting sweep-up strokes 1 and 3 of the precedent character and sweep-up strokes 4 and 2 of the following character along the straight line 6 is found, and the respective strokes are varied in inclination 8; and the inclination 8 where the error from the imaginary connecting straight line 6 becomes minimum is determined and the connection between the characters is completed. Then the ending point and beginning point of the sweep-up parts are freely moved along the imaginary straight line 6 to represent diverse connected characters.
