Abstract:
PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain germicidal water having high germicidal power even in low concentration with minimal electric power consumption by adding hypochlorite to water in an anode chamber, adding acids, such as hydrochloric acid, to water in a cathode chamber, and performing electrolysis so that the pH value of the aqueous solution of hypochlorous acid formed in the anode chamber is regulated to a value in a practically specific range. CONSTITUTION:Hypochlorite is added to water in an anode chamber 3' of an electrolytic cell 1 and acid, such as hydrochroric acid, is added to water in a cathode chamber 2', and water in the electrolytic cell is electrolyzed so that the pH value of the water, as electrolytic product, in the anode chamber 3' is regulated to about 3-7. Because ClO<-> in the added hypochlorite combines with H<+> in the water and remains in the form of HClO in the aqueous solution, waste can be avoided and the productive efficiency of germicidal water can be improved and, further, the resulting germicidal water can be satisfactorily used as germicidal water even in low concentration. Moreover, because electrolysis is exerted by adding hydrochloric acid, etc., to the cathode chamber 2', the pH value in the anode chamber 3' is reduced and, as a result, the pH value in the anode chamber 3' can be held at 3-7 at lower voltage for electrolysis. Accordingly, electric power consumption can be economized.
