Abstract:
PURPOSE:To efficiently obtain the subject compound useful as an active ingredient for fungicide, plant growth regulator and herbicide by reducing an asymmetrical ketone with an optically active borane complex. CONSTITUTION:An asymmetrical ketone of formula II (R<3> is halogen- substitutable 3-8C cycloalkyl, 5-8C cycloalkenyl, halogen or phenyl which may be replaced with 1-4C alkyl, etc.; R<4> is imidazol-1-yl, etc.) is reduced with an optically active borane complex of formula I (R<1> is phenyl; R<2> is methyl; *is asymmetric carbon) in a solvent (e.g. chloroform) at -30 to 100 deg.C in an inert gas atmosphere to give an optically active alcohol derivative. 0.3-2mol calculated as boron of the borane complex is used based on 1mol of the ketone compound of formula II.
