Abstract:
Solid quaternary esters with improved emulsifying power in water are obtained in that fatty acid triethanolamine esters of formula (I), in which R<1>CO is a saturated and/or unsaturated acyl group with 6-22 carbon atoms, R<2> and R<3> are, independently of each other, hydrogen or R<1>CO, and n, m and p in sum stand for 0 or numbers from 1 to 10, in the presence of nonionic emulsifiers selected from the group of a) alkyl and/or alkenyl oligoglycosides, b) fatty acid-N-alkyl polyhydroxyalkylamides, c) partial glyceride polyglycol ethers and/or d) polyol compounds, are quaternized in the known way using alkylating agents. The products can be used, for example, in the manufacture of cosmetics, such as hair care products.
