Abstract:
Aromatic sulphonic acids are isolated in the form of the free acid or in the form of their alkali metal salts from aqueous solution or suspension by extracting the aqueous solution or suspension in which the aromatic sulphonic acids or their alkali metal salts are present with an organic solvent which is immiscible with water or miscible only to a limited extent and is selected from the group comprising alcohols, ketones or carboxylic esters, separating off the organic phase, if desired converting the free aromatic sulphonic acids contained therein into their alkali metal salts, and then removing the organic solvent.
