PURPOSE: To obtain a new compound having an antagonistic activity against angiotensin II and a hypotensive activity, useful e.g. as a treating agent for cardiovascular diseases, e.g. hypertension, or its intermediate.
CONSTITUTION: A compound of formula I {R1 and R2 are each H, halogen, a lower (halo)alkyl, lower cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkoxyl, etc.; R3 is H, nitro, NHR7 (R7 is H, hydroxyl, a lower alkyl, etc.); R4 is formula II [R8 and R9 are each H, halogen, lower alkyl, etc.; R10 is formula III (R12 is COOH, SO3H, etc.; R13 and R11 are each H, halogen, a lower alkyl, etc.)], etc.; X and Y are CH or N; Z is H, a lower alkyl, alkoxyl, etc.}, e.g. 2-[[6-(N-(4,6-dimethyl-3- nitropyridin-2-yl)aminomethyl)]quinolin-2-yl]benzoic acid methyl ester. Further, this compound is obtained, e.g. by reacting a compound of formula IV (R24 is R4, etc.) with a compound of formula V (R21 is R1, etc.; R22 is R2, etc.; R23 is R3, etc.; W is halogen, etc.).
