PURPOSE: To enable a displayed color to be viewed sharply from the slant direction by regulating the distance between an electrode and a color polarizing layer to a specified value or less in a liquid crystal color display device of a twisted nematic type.
CONSTITUTION: A color polarizing layer 12 having a large number of picture elements composed of the three primary colors of red, green, and blue as the constituent units is formed on a support 11 made of glass or optically isotropic transparent film or the like. A transparent optically isotropic polymer film 13 is formed on the layer 12, and further, on this film 13, a transparent electrode 14 is formed, and the difference between the layer 12 and the electrode 14, that is, the thickness of the film 13, is regulated to about 1/4 of the width of the picture elements or less. An intended liquid crystal color display device is fabricated by successively forming on the electrode 14 a liquid crystal layer 15, a transparent electrode 16, a glass base 17, and a black and white polarizing plate 18.
