Abstract:
PURPOSE:To enable highly-precise measurement of a residual amount of power of a secondary battery by extracting only blocks in a fully-charged state and an intermediate state and by totalizing the residual amount of power. CONSTITUTION:Based on information from level shift circuits 41 to 43, CPU 40 selects battery cells 111 to 113 in a fully-charged state and an intermediate state, reads out amounts of discharge of the cells from RAM 50 and computes residual amounts of power. In more detail, first the maximum amount of power that can be charged in one block is measured and made to be a reference amount of power. The residual amount of power of the battery cell in the fully-charged state is regarded as the reference amount of power, while the residual amount of power of the battery cell in the intermediate state is found by subtracting the amount of discharge from the reference amount of power. The residual amount of power in a battery cell in an uncharged state is regarded as 0 irrespective of the value of the residual amount of power stored in the RAM 50. Next, the residual amount of power of a secondary battery 110 as a whole is determined by totalizing these residual amounts of power. The whole residual amount of power thus obtained is sent from the CPU 40 to an external LCD display device 140 through an LCD drive circuit 90 and displayed therein.
