Abstract:
The invention concerns a precipitant or flocculant for purifying waste water, as defined in the description, characterized in that it contains a certain quantity of hydrophilic solvents such that the agglomeration of the primary particles to form secondary particles which are not precipitated in water is prevented and such that the average diameter of the particles in aqueous suspension is less than 2 mu m and that no particles with a particle diameter greater than 10 mu m are present. To obtain the product, either (a) the salts used as starting materials for the production of these double-layer hydroxides are introduced in equivalent amounts in a solvent into a common reactor, and the precipitated precipitant is used, possibly after washing with a solvent, in moist form without previous drying to a solids content greater than 70 wt. %, or (b) the precipitate is produced in situ by carrying out the above-mentioned steps in the waste water to be treated. Also described are the manufacture of the products and the process involving their use.
